Oppikoppi Festival Branding

Sweet Thing

Oppikoppi is one of South Africa’s most iconic music festivals, known for its wild energy and deep local roots. When the theme “Sweet Thing” was announced, I immediately thought about what “sweet” means in a South African context. Not just sugar, but nostalgia and identity. From Chappies bubblegum to Fizzer wrappers, Wilson toffees, and Peanut Brittle, these sweets are part of everyone’s childhood here.

The idea was to capture that nostalgic feeling, the kind that instantly connects people and use it as the core of the visual identity. The main poster use typography and vibrant colours pulled from classic Chappies Branding.

The stage pamphlets were designed to look like the back of a Chappies wrapper, complete with “Did You Know?” sections for a playful, local twist. Even the ticket design ties into the system, featuring a custom “O” that matches the rest of the branding.
